Dr. Bauer is a nationally recognized health futurist and medical economist. He is a partner in the management consulting practice of ACS Healthcare Solutions (Dearborn, MI), a leading provider of outsourcing, information technology, and business solutions to the health care industry. In his numerous publications and presentations, he forecasts the future of health care and describes practical, creative approaches to improving the health care delivery system.
Dr. Bauer has published more than 145 articles, books, Web pages, and videos on health care delivery. He speaks frequently to national audiences about key trends in health care, medical science, technology, reimbursement, information systems, public policy, and creative problem-solving. Dr. Bauer is often quoted in the national press and writes regularly for periodicals that cover the business of health care.
Beginning with an historical review of health care reimbursement in the 20th century, Dr. Bauer develops a list of fundamental assumptions behind efforts to change the payment system and improve access to health care. Special attention is given to clarifying the imprecise terms (e.g., costs, competition, managed care) that cloud debate over health reform. The 20th century principles of health insurance are then critically analyzed, and updated actuarial concepts are proposed for the 21st century.
The presentation forecasts the next generation of health insurance products -- with special emphasis on consumer-directed and high-deductible plans -- and presents specific approaches to dealing with them. An up-to-date review of the status of defined contribution plans is included, along with an analysis of reform issues for the upcoming elections.
This insightful and results-oriented speech is ideal for business (purchaser) coalitions, health insurance companies, managed care plans, public policy groups, or any other organizations actively involved in third-party reimbursement for medical care.
